This thread will be a little odd, unspecified and semi-farfetched, and it is ok to say that this thread sucks and is bad, as long as you do it politely
I have intended to build a guitar for some time, and now I've finally decided to get things done. I intend to build a sort of standard stratocaster, with SSS pick ups.
A friend of mine has offered to sell one of his unused Fender CS 69 to me for a very good price, and I am tempted. However, he has just one of them, as he is using the other two...
So, my question is: if I buy it, in what position do I put it, and what would you recommend for the other two pick ups? I am mainly a metal player, but I do like some good ol' blues, rock and grunge, and would like to have something that fits that spectrum of music (blues and rock). If the pick ups can handle some metal it is a welcome bonus, but it is not necessary. Perhaps I could put the 69 in the neck position, and something hotter/more metal-friendly in the bridge, and something else in between?
However if this won't work I'll go for something that matches the 69.
Or, should I not buy it and buy other pick ups?
My favorite combo for HSS is:
Neck - 69
Mid - Texas special
Bridge - medium output hum
For SSS I like
Neck - 69
Mid - Fat 50's
Bridge - Texas Special
