Been working on this for the last year with Tim Mills. Good buddy Nolly helped with the design as well, because we all know he knows tone, and Dylan Humphries (Daemoness) desigined the optional laser etch logo for the covers.
These will be out soon in 6 and 7 variants as covered/uncovered pickups.
I can't say too much more about them JUST yet, but I can say that I have an uncovered set in this guitar:
Yeah, those sound really fantastic. It would be a very different sound than I typically go for, it seems, but that video has me quite interested. The cleaner tone from the bridge pickup pretty much sold me. I HATE cleans in the bridge position, but that actually sounded quite nice.
I agree. I think it's all a bit "modern" sounding for me, but the pumped-up VHII neck humbucker is a sweet concept. I wonder how the two would compare against my Nailbomb. And it's definitely a cool set, especially with the etch.
Thanks guys.
Believe it or not, one of the aspects I was after was something more like a PAF in how full and dynamic I wanted the pickup to be and I think that led to it being very good on cleans as a result.
Tim really knocked it out of the park with this set, I am really excited to see what you guys think of it in person, because the one thing that is impossible to showcase in a video is the feel. The dynamics on this pickup are unlike anything I have felt in something that is this contemporary.
I know I'm way late for this but I wanted to ask the man himself
Misha.
I know these have been out there since long time ago, but, I have a question regarding these Juggernaut pickups.
I have an Ebmm Jpxi7 with bkp Emeralds but with the Emerald bridge this guitar sounds way too bright. I was recommended the Holy Diver bridge that would pair well with the Emerald Neck. But I've been thinking about a Juggernaut bridge? How would the Juggernaut compare to the Holy Diver? I Play fusion, modern metal. I'm a big fan of Meshuggah, Periphery , DispersE, Allan Holdsworth.
I also have an Ibanez Premium S970WRW wenge/bubinga neck. rosewood fretboard, rosewood top African mahogany body. I was also recommended the Holy diver bridge Emerald neck for this guitar. But the juggernauts are really interesting to me. I'm very confused as how to go with these.
I'm very sorry to be bothering you with this, and I hope I'll get to see you guys at the Irving Plaza in February. Thanks so much for your time.
I hate to speak on Misha's behalf, but to my knowledge, the Juggernauts were tested in and designed to work in a guitar made primarily of basswood/maple, with a maple neck. These should be perfect in a JP.
But in pratice, each part of a setup has its own tonal coloration/spectrum/grain/response, you can achieve similar frequency spectrum by either adjusting your amp EQ, or using an EQ in the loop, or EQ in front, but each of those options will end up sounding different.
Per example, sometimes I use very trebly Pickups, but I use the Tone control on my guitar and turn it all the way down. That way it affects the way my pickup responds to my pick attack directly at the source and give it a certain tonal characteristic once it hits the amp.
But if instead of using my tone control I use the Treble knob on the amp, I could make it sound similar but the grain will be different and it might cut some other frequencies and change the grain of the amp.
Pickups come in various options and magnets and construction because it affects the response, the grain, the output, the tonal range, directly at the source. Of course the amp is often considered the most important part of a tone but the guitar pickups also make a huge difference, and people often overlook this fact and end up getting rid of their guitars or go through a bunch of amps, because they can't identify what part of their rig is really creating the "problem".
Take the same guitar and put a JB, then put an EMG81, then a Dimarzio Super Distortion, and none of these will ever sound or feel the same no matter how much you tweak the amp EQ.
