So I'm planning on replacing the pickups in my PRS SE245. I like the pickups that are in there, but wouldn't mind a little more brightness/clarity, and I want something chrome/nickel covered.
For those who don't know, the guitar is a short scale, mahogany body/neck guitar with a maple top. It already sounds very Les Paul like.
What I'm looking for:
-not super high output, but not too weak (similar output level to the stock pickups)
-bright and clear, but not thin or harsh, needs to still have some chunk and warmth
What I'm not looking for:
-JB, or anything similar (I've had one before, and it's not what I'm looking for in this guitar)
-BKP or similarly expensive pickups. Just can't afford it with the other mods I'm doing (as much as the brushed nickel covers would look great).
What I'm currently looking at:
-Gibson 498t/490r (They're easy to find used for cheap, and they're the sound I'm used to hearing from Les Pauls. I know I like the sound)
-Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pros
-Seymour Duncan '59s
-Duncan Seth Lover/DiMarzio PAF/other PAF style?
Any opinions, or other suggestions? I'm currently leaning strongest towards the Gibson pickups, unless one of these or something else offers a better version of a similar tone.
Check into a set of Rio Grandes. The Crunch/PunchBox combo is pretty solid.
