I ordered a headless holdsworth a couple weeks ago, and I'm just not sure what pups to go with. I have 2 DC800's, one with a warpig, and the other with a d-activator(both ceramic). So I really have my uber-agro guitars, and with this one, I think I'm wanting a little more versatility.
I keep hearing Holdsworth in the vids for the HH2 and I really dig his clean, chorusy tones. So clean jazzy tones are defiantly something I want, but I totally want to be able to play metal shit on it too. I'm willing to compromise the metal tones a touch and the cleans a touch to get something that covers the bases of both well.
I find that with lower tunings and 8 strings, the ceramic pups cut and crunch better and it helps with clarity. With 6's, i would prefer alnico to beef up the thinner sound of a 6 string(comparatively of course). Not a must, but its something to consider. Lower output is also something i think i would prefer, but not a necessity.
So another issue i have is the body is chambered and i don't know how that will effect the sound. I have little experience with chambered guitars. The neck pup is floating I believe, but the bridge pup is in solid wood to help with feed back(there is a pic below of the inside of a HH2). Im hearing that chambering can make a guitar bassier so maybe a more trebely pup would make more sense? I dont know if thats true or not.
Currently, I'm thinking a Duncan JB, a tonezone/air nortan, or bkp black hawks.
Help a brother out dawg.
Oh, and here is the mockup I did for the specs i chose. SS frets, satin finish, flame board. All that shit.
I would look at Breeds or an AT-1 with a PAF pro neck
