    Pickups for a project

    Hi folks -

I recently took up guitar - I'm 49 - so this is going to be a newbie question. I looked for a while before posting.

I have a guitar I like, an Ibanez DT2 Destroyer with DiMarzio pickups - Air Norton Neck and Tone Zone Bridge.

But I decided I wanted to experiment, so I picked up a used Ibanez ART 100 and I'd like to turn it into a metal machine, more or less. It's mahogany body with a one-piece set in mahogany neck, two volume controls, one tone, 3-way switch.

I've been a Megadeth fan since my teens and I'm thinking of starting with either the SD Live Mustaine active pickup set or the passive set that mirrors it (SH-4 and SH-2N).

My amp is a Peavey 210 Chorus - I'll upgrade as I can.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks -
All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

The passive JB/Jazz (SH-4 and SH-2) are great pickups that'll do just about anything. There are pricier alternatives that have similar characteristics (including some I like a little better, like the Suhr Aldrich or Bareknuckle Holy Diver), but that's a great all-around set for rock and metal.

    Your username is amazing.

I can't stand the JB for metal - I think it sucks, but I'm in the minority. Try the D-Activators, they're the goods.

    Wirelessly posted (Wondernuts)

Many people like the JB/Jazz set but I'm also in the minority that doesn't gel with it. None of my guitars have played well with the JB I have and it ends up way too boomy, however for you it may be more ideal.

If you find the JB not to your liking I would also recommend the SH-5 Custom as an alternative
