And I'm not really impressed. I expected to hear something exceptional, but they sound like a million other pickups to me. They actually seem similar to the stock 7620 or 1527 pickups.

Maybe I've tried a less interesting set. A Holy Diver and Emerald. I prefer the DiMarzios I've almost always used.

Agreed for the most part. Ive tried quite a few, Painkiller, Cold Sweat, Nailbomb (all 6 string) and Black Dogs (neck and bridge 7 string).

The first three i wasn't impressed with. Its not that i didn't like them but when i was spraying 100 per pickup I wanted to hear the difference from a 60 Seymour Duncan. Not only did i not think they were better, I actually prefer SD JB/Distortion/Jazz/59 to the 6 string BKPs I've tried.

The black dogs in my 7 string however, are absolutely amazing.

    I haven't heard anything special that I don't think I couldn't get from comparable SD/Dimarzio offerings.

Id like to try an aftermath as i reckon i would like them. All my guitars have pickups I like though, so maybe if i ever buy another Ibanez i will give them a go.
