First thread on this forum so be nice with me
My Ibanez RGD2127z is currently loaded with a set of Duncan Distortion. I really love these pickups (in this particular guitar) and can't really complain about them.
But I recently got a M80M and I'm blown away with how it sounds : huge lows with lot of tightness, lots of attacks and clarity but not too much midrange (slightly scooped maybe but I may just be a feeling), very aggressive. I know it probably comes a lot from the ash but the Lundgren M8 does a pretty nice job in this guitar. The DI from this guitar is fantastic IMO. The sound seems more "sculpted" than with the Distortion, which sounds more transparent/neutral to me.
So I was thinking about ordering a set of Lundgren M7 for my RGD2127z. The goal would be to get the tone of this guitar closer to the M80M which I really like (did I mention that already ?). I'm pretty sure it will not sound bad but the price tag is quite high so I don't know if it worth it...
Some people also recommend a Cold Sweat set or Ceramic Nailbomb + Cold Sweat neck.
So what do you think ? I know there is some Duncan Distortion fan around here, so I need some advice.
Should I stick with the Duncan Distortion and keep my money or should I try the Lundgren M7 (or BKP) ?
honestly if you want the guitar to sound close your M80M your best bet is the Lundgren M7 than going with a random BKP. If you really wanna go the BKP route though I highly recommend you email BKP for a pickup recommendation. The staff there really know their stuff and can probably find you what you really want. My first BKP purchase was the Cold Sweat Set based off of recommendations from people on sevenstring.org however the bridge pickup wasn't what I was looking for however the neck pickup was insanely awesome.
