I have a PRS SE singlecut that's probably from 2008 or so, it's comfortable and plays pretty nice but sounds a tad lifeless. Looks like this guy:
I'm going to replace the stock passive pickup, just in the bridge for now. My first inclination was to get a Dimarzio X2N in there since I had one in my LP back in the 90s and I thought it sounded great back then. They do a cream X2N which I could match against the rings.
But maybe I should consider others, since there are so many choices these days for higher output passives. Some of you seem to know which pickups pair well with what guitar types, wood, etc. Any suggestions?
Tone I'm looking for is obviously high output, but not too scooped or compressed - I'd actually like something that helps get me closer to a full-range or mid-range oriented 'brown' sound, if that makes any sense. Thanks in advance.
Brown sound is not high output. If you have the money, the BKP VHIIs are awesome in every way for mahogany and maple guitars.
