I'm not a huge fan of massively high output anyway, SD Distortion is about as hot as I like it. In fact that's my favourite pickup.
I actually quite dig using low to medium output a lot of the time but not sure the 59 bridge will cut it. The guitar will be in d standard/drop c for an Alice in chains/King's x sort of thing.
Not exactly searing hot metal but I'd like for pinched harmonics to come out nicely and for it to have some muscle without having to use silly amounts of amp gain.
Am I barking up the wrong tree entirely here and should just swap the bridge out right away, or is it worth giving such a low output pickup a try for heavy riffs? Has anybody tried it with any great deal of success?
I'd be interested to hear your take on it. I actually like low to medium output pickups also, but I'd never have thought of a 59 in the bridge. Some of my favorite 7 string pickups are PAF7's, and I hate shit like Invaders and super high output crap like that. Lower output seems to articulate lower end pretty well to my ears anyway, so I think you might be on to something. I like your tones and your style, so I want to hear your opinion and maybe a clip or two.
