So, I'm assembling a parts-Tele, and have basically everything decided on and sorted out (and mostly paid for/ordered), I just need the actual controls and wiring.
I have experience with replacing a pot or pickups or jack, but have never completely wired up a guitar. The task of wiring the guitar doesn't worry me, I can follow diagrams well, and I'm sure I'll get it right with only minor personal injury
What I need to know is: what the fuck do I buy?
Would the 4-way "mod" wiring kit on this page be decent (as far as component quality)?
Guitar Parts Resource* ::*Wiring Kits for Tele
Or should I buy the parts individually elsewhere (i.e. would that be cheaper/better)?
I'm sure I could probably find all the parts I need locally (maybe not the 4-way switch, but who knows), but I really hate dealing with the local shops as far as parts go, because they either have very limited stock (the shop I prefer), or they keep it all hidden away, meaning I'd have to talk to them, and they're all opinionated and wouldn't just sell me what I came in to buy (the one I like less)
^^^Those are mostly the brands I use to replace electronic components in any of my gtrs. Although Max has told me once that Alps pots are better quality. Dunno if that still holds true.Kit includes: (2) CTS 250k solid shaft pots, Oak Grigsby 4-way pickup switch with round black tip, Switchcraft 1/4" jack, 4 ft. each black/white poly wire, and .047mfd Orange Drop tone capacitor.
Not too sure about using a .047mfd cap though. Seems to be a bit too high for my liking. But then again I never touch my tone control anyway.
As far as dealers go? If I'm not buying from Max, I'm getting my parts from guitarelectronics.com.
