Ok, so, I see a lot of people asking advice on pickups that will bring out the tonal intricacies of their setup. I mean, when you have £2k worth of guitar, £1k worth of FX and £2k worth of amp, I can understand that totally.
I however, want something different. I want something (preferably passive, and cheap as possible) that will make both of my PRS's sound similar (they do anyway, but I want real unity) and will sound similar through most high gain amplifiers etc (I rock a spider valve for home/practice, live I'll just normally use whatever's there).
Something like the DiActivators maybe? I just want something that has the EMG effect (y'know...that ability to make guitars sound remarkably similar despite differing wood/construction.)
Or should I just suck it up and go with EMG's?
Are they the same woods? Do they sound similar acoustically/tonally already? I know one of yours is a rosewood allender, but I forgot which the other is. How close are the specs to one another?
There are certainly pickups that have a very defined flavor that will have that in any guitar. EMGs definitely fall in this camp. But if you have two guitars that are similar specswise/tonally any other pickup will sound very similar placed in them.
Also what kind of sound are you going for? Lots of pickups will make your guitars sound similar, but I presume you want something that sounds pretty good.
And you already know my stance on the EMG X series, but there are lots of other awesome pickups out there as well.
