Ok, I just picked my UV back up from Mouridian Guitars in Winchester Mass - they've been my go to shop for anything I'm not comfortable doing myself for years now, ever since they were in Porter Square.
My UV's a '91 and I'm pretty sure the fretwork was original - medium frets, with about 20 years of wear on them. On top of that, ever since picking up that Charvel jumbo fretwire has just felt much better to me, so I dropped it off at the start of December. I was quoted an estimated end-of-month turnaround time, and it came in a little longer than that (it was ready about aweek ago), but I wouldn't have been able to get in there before today so that wasn't a big deal.
The fretwork, well, first impression is that it's spectacular. The frets are perfectly smooth along the edge of the board, carefully rounded off on the edges, and feel very even with no buzz at all at a comfortably low action. Additionally, Jim Mouridian seems to have slightly planed and resurfaced the fretboard - it looks brand new, to be perfectly honest. I've only been able to play for a couple minutes so far, but it feels like a totally new guitar - absolutely effortless, and with the larger frets legato is just that much easier and crisper.
Pics of frets are a bit tough to take, but, well...
Overall, I'm really happy. Scratch that - I'm just excited to have my UV in the best playing shape she's been since I bought her.
Awesome Drew! That looks great, and I am glad that it has revived a long passion you have had with that guitar!
I've sent my 2027 to get leveled and dressed, I can't wait till it gets back!
