The admin of the SLOclone forums is putting this project together to adress a few of the issues he has with the 5150 and also improve on whats already there.
The plan is
- Lower the noisefloor
- Remove the fizz
- Tighten the lows
- Add fully independant dual tonestacks that have a larger range and are more focused
- Add Midi switching
- Add indivudual power valve biasing so you can mix and match valve types (KT88,EL34,6l6) and even use unmatched valves
- Use HIFI transformers to give the tone more authority
- Add Power Scaling
This will be limited to a single run and is limited to 5 units per person.
I believe 2 of my 5 is already taken one being mine.
The build cost will be a bit higher than a used 5150 due to the higher quality parts being used and all the additions.
Just putting this out there in case anyone is interested I could knock one together for them when the time comes.
The above is only ideas at the moment and could change but hes about 50% through designing the schematic, pcbs & chassis and estimates it will all be ready around september.
Shoot me a PM if interested
*Also the costs will be a bit different also from his estimate due to international shipping to the UK of the transformers & chassis which would obviously include the shipping itself & possibly duty/vat if it gets caught up
