would just like to know the tonal capabilities of vic ash as i have the opportunity to get a guitar made from this wood (for the body)
also, for a natural finish... what are the 'finishing' options? just wax? and will that require frequent re-waxing?
I made a Tele in Vic Ash.
I don't think I'll use it as a guitar timber again.
I cannot comment on the "tone" as you asked as it had elcheapo (Select) pickups, so it sounds like shit because of them anyway.
The grain is massive and took a bit of filling compared to most woods. Just cause it's called Vic Ash, do not compare it to Swamp Ash or any of our foreign ashs, as it's just not like them.
Think of it as a cheap building/structual wood (often sold as KD Hardwood)
I only used it as I had some sitting there and I didn't want to waste any good timber - I was making a "wall hanger" - it was a gift for someone who doesnt even play guitar, but the gfx have sentimental effect to the person.
Not sure if that helps any?
Thats it raw (had a strip of QLD maple down the center just to make up the width - like I said, it was made to be a wall hanger, not played, but it is quite playable)
