Well what's this here that I found upon my return from the local bake shop I work at?
There's only one thing to do!
Please take a moment to appreciate my (incredibly) shitty (county) legal Pointy Knife of Box Rapage (+^ vs cardboard enemies)
Well I'll just open this box up now. . .
Fuck yeah! Exactly what I ordered! Fifty dollars worth of paper and bubble wrap!
Shit there's actually stuff in here!
It's actually a pretty nice Ibanez neck, 25.5 scale.
Pretty straight too, but it's now getting used right now, because . . .
This shit is a 24.75 beast of Latin lettering influenced metal!
Note the epically cheap pick-guard.
Overall not too bad, it's definitely basswood as you all helped me ascertain, by the way. it's light as shit and has no figure.
Most noticeable ding is this scratch right here. . .
Not a bad body for less than 40 bucks. Here's the extras I bought with it.
The bridge pieces are black chrome , and the bridge saddles are brass. Overall they're pretty weighty too, don't feel cheap at all. The pickups are NOT going to be used, hopefully I can pawn them off onto someone.
Well here's the first problem. Looks like this baby is gona get a custom pickguard setup.
Ehh, slightly closer, probably a good template for where I want it to sit/where I'll be cutting things off.
A rough idea of what I want it to look like in the end, just add snow white paint and a glossy finish.
Well overall I have a shit-ton more work to do with this than I thought I would. The pickup cavities need to be routed out they're VERY small, and once my dean neck comes in I can make sure this was supposed to be a 22 fret instrument, I'm pretty fucked if it wasn't. At this point I'm thinking it may have been a Dean Body, but who knows, it's just as likely it was a nameless Asian knockoff body.
Hopefully I can find something to do with the Ibanez neck in the near future. If I felt like it I could actually quite comfortably put it on the terrible basswood strat I have, the neck on that thing is all sorts of terrible and it's my first build, so I might as well try to improve it.
This should be a very exciting build for me. The way things are looking at this point I'm going to be a total badass with a dremmel by the end of it, and if anyone know the cleanest tool to cut a pickguard quickly and keep it nice looking, please let me know. I'm also planning on painting it snow white or another very pure white to accentuate the black hardware, so advice on paint is also welcome, as well as a gloss finish.
This is also going to be the ongoing picstory of me building this guitar as it happens. It's probably going to take longer than I thought it would, but that will just make it even better when I finish it and I can take it to my friends' house and jam and record on it.
Hope I don't destroy my first serious guitar project, and I hope you all enjoy getting to see all the sexy pictures of my basement as well!
That scratch is ugly dude.
