Well, even though I have been playing for about 24-25 years, I have never been a fan of trems, especially of the many Floyd Rose varieties. To be clear, whatever the differences I consider this to include all the Ibanez trem variations and a good deal of others. I have many times purchased a sweet guitar, hoping to like the trem and use it, only to never play it and eventually sell it off…only to try again. I hate the clipping of the ball end on the string and having to lock that in, although I saw how some people simply place the ball end through the tuner at the headstock and go from there.
The bigger peeve I have with the trems is the constantly retuning as you’re tuning. You know, tune the low E or B, then move to the A, then the D, meanwhile E and A are already much out of tune as the springs keep adjusting to the increasing string tension. That kind of thing drives me batshit crazy. I just got (literally, yesterday) a new Ibanez S5427 from Sweetwater, and it has the ZR7 bridge with the ZPS2 system. I understand there is no Tremol-No model that will fit this trem, but I would really like to come to terms with the trem given how awesome the rest of the guitar is.
So, my question is, is there a trick or something that I am missing that would allow me to tune up this thing up without taking 15-20 minutes of back and forth? Or am I basically just screwed unless I put a wooden block in the back?
Floyds suck for tuning.
