I've recently A/B'd my RG550 and the C7 - both have Seymour Duncan JB in bridge position - and came to surprising conclusions. Ibanez sounds warm and full, while the C7 seems to be more fizzy and scooped. I've looked at the wiring, and the only differences were the pickup selector and tone capacitor (0.22 mF on C7, 0.33 on RG550).
The basswood six string is louder and sounds full, while the mahogany 7-string lacks those tonal qualities. Since there are so many guitar-tech gurus here - what do you think may be causing the differences? Are the 6/7 string pickup versions voiced differently? What can I do to bring my schecter's tone closer to the RG550?
Everyone I've heard talking about the JB vs. JB7, other than people who work at Seymour Duncan, say that they're very different pickups.
