    Ruby or JJ?

I am about to buy some new tubes for my Peavey XXX.

I actually really like the tone I am getting with Ruby tubes but everyone I know tells me to get JJ's.

So should I buy the tubes I KNOW I am happy with or go with something new?

I can't stand JJs, so not everyone disagrees with you. Ruby is what Mesa uses for power tubes, and thus far, I have yet to find anything else that cuts in a two guitar band. JJs are just dull and lifeless by comparison.

I wasn't a big fan of JJ's, and ended up with Tung Sol's in the last two amps I owned. My new amp however, comes with KT77's, and there's only JJ's or Genalex, so I can see me running JJ's until I throw EL34B's in it.

I had Rubys in my 6505+ and liked them a bunch.

I had JJs in my old Roadster, and didn't like them at all.

The JJ's I had did either sound awesome but exploded after 3 weeks or did sound absolutely shitty.

I use Sovtek EL84Ms. Last much longer in my tube-eating Budda.

I had sovteks in my last mesa and the suckers went kaput within a month. Not just one either. 3 pre's out of 5

So are Mesa tubes the cream of the crop rubys or are all rubys and mesa's equal?
