I'm just wondering if you guys ever get these and if it means anything to you. This string was kinked as shown right out of the package.
It hasn't seemed to make a difference, but it gets me wondering about the origin of the defect (coiling/packaging process? looks like it was bent around a wheel or something) and if it has an impact on string life/intonation characteristics (e.g. if there's residual stress at the point of the bend).
I don't think I ever got one from D'Addario, but I've received a few from Dunlop (along with an extra 28, and no 17, in a Heavy7 set ).
Just an observation from a quality control engineer.
I got a set of Markleys that had a kink like that in the unwound G string. I tried to straighten it the best I could, but the king landed right about the 15th fret or so when I strung the guitar, so it would buzz like crazy whenever I played up there.
