I want to do this to my Barrington, and I just had a few questions to make sure I'm going in the right direction.
I have Gracey's paint colors picked out in my eBay watch list. Is there anywhere cheaper($28~/can), or a better paint(at that price point)?
I'm not sure if I'd want to clear coat, or leave it as is so it ages into the different colors... It'd depend on how smooth the top layer is, I guess(though it'd be sanded anyways...).
What grades of sandpaper would be recommended for each part of the process(removing the factory paint, sanding paint layers down for the blending effect etc.)?
Lastly(for now) do I need a wood sealer or anything before painting? Primer, what not.
I just need a little push into the right direction(s), and I want to actually do it instead of my last project.
Any advice is greatly appreciated(kinda flying blind, here), I'm also going to email ESP and see if I can find anything out.
I've been looking at my old Epi, thinking about stripping and painting next summer as well. I checked Youtube using this search term
stripping paint off an electric guitar
Good luck and take lots of progress shots as you go!
