I thought that I was just a greasy wop, but it looks like all black satin finishes wear away just below the picking area. My ESP/LTD is otherwise absolutely immaculate, and like new. I've always taken really good care of it.
I've read that using extra-fine grit sandpaper can get rid of it, but the guitar is like my child, and I don't want to fuck it up.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions? I want to retain the flat black satin finish.
Thanks for your help.
It's kinda tough to tell from the pic, but you might be able to see the area above the bridge pickup.
every black satin guitar I ever had always gets those shiny patches because thats a spot your hands touch very often. i like the look personally but as far as safely bringing it back to the flat color I don't know but I think stuff like that gives the guitar character.
