I have been away from playing for about 5 years but I am back now. I have picked up a JP70 at a good price and I notice that the frets are just a bit peaking out on the sides... can feel them playing some leads. Obviously where I am in the midwest its dry and I dont have a humidfirer yet... but will this wood come back at all? Or as I was told by local guitar tech that the frets might have to be cut. He also told me not to put guitar honey on the fretboard because it could get too moist and pop the frets out???
Fret sprout happens in the dry weather. Just get them dressed - it's not a very expensive job and it'll be fine. And get yourself a humidifier.
Also, if that guy told you that Guitar Honey would make the board too moist and pop your frets out, do yourself a favor and find a different tech.
