So my Ibby 7 has this nasty habit of dipping head-first toward the ground at every opportunity, and I'd like to do something about it. I see there are already some enterprising individuals marketing their own solutions out there, but I don't really feel like paying $40 for a guitar strap with a pocket or a hunk of tungsten, ya know?
It seems like the easiest thing to do would be to get a wireless unit pouch, coin purse, or small runner's fanny pack - something with a belt loop - that I can throw some fishing or drapery weights in and slide it on the bottom of the strap. Most of the things I'm finding on ebay are either too bulky or aren't entirely enclosed, so the weights might fall out. Best I've found so far is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P9H10C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX 0DER]this fuelbelt runner's pouch. It's small, it's black, it zips closed, and it's cheap. I'm wondering though if I could get away with something even smaller, like a coin purse or one of those dorky credit card and currency organizers, as long as I'm using flat weights.
Anybody done something similar? Does it work? Any particular recommendations as to what kind of bag/holster to use?
Why not try out the idea with gaffa tape and weights first? Gaffa tape fixes everything
Otherwise, it may be worth seeing if anyone has redrilled the strap pins on this model, as sometimes moving them can better balance a guitar... (a lot of folks did this when the original xiphos came out I seem to remember)
