Hi all, as I'm currently piecing together the bits I need for 7 string build I had one or two questions about templates and I'm hoping any of the fine luthiers on here might be able to offer a nugget of advice.
I cant find any RG 7 string templates anywhere online. I contact aiguitars on ebay after bootspauls recommendation and they said they currently cannot offer any custom templates.
So instead I've since contacted guitarbuildingtemplates.com to see if they can make one for me. They can - but they need to know the exact specs i require. I've got a neck due soon so I'll wait for that to arrive so i can measure and give him the exact specs, but i wondered if anyone knows of any other specs which differ between 6 and 7 string RGs? Obviously the pickup cavities will be wider; and as the scale length is staying the same I'm ASSUMING that the pickup placement will stay the same in a HH configuration. but does that placement change from a Floyd Rose to a hardtail? i.e. does the bridge pickup location change between a floyd rose and hardtail RG?
The guitar I'm building will have a hipshot hardtail, so I don't need to worry about the dimensions on a Floyd Rose cavity - but are there any other obvious dimensions I'm missing which they will need to build an accurate template?
Also if anyone else is looking for a template, I could ask them about a bulk order/group discount if anyone fancies in on the deal.
Quite honestly, you don't need a template to build a guitar body. The neck pocket, which is probably the most important part, can be located and cut using a few pieces of wood, a thin ruler and a few clamps. That is how we did Jason's bass.
After the neck is installed you can locate the pickups and bridge.
