A few weeks back I disconnected my tone control and moved the volume control to where the tone control was. Reason being that the volume control was getting in the way however, I wanted to change it back to keep the guitar looking as stock as possible.
I wired everything back in according the the EMG diagram and for some reason the tone control doesn't seem to work. It did before and I think I've wired it back to how it was.
The volume control is also scratchy.
Any ideas on what I could have done wrong? here's the diagram I used.
Scratchy volume pot is likely just dust, which you could probably blast out with 'keyboard cleaner' spray.
Because tone controls are sort of an 'open' end of the guitar's circuit (because there are no components which follow them), anything causing it not to work would be attached directly to the tone control itself. Recheck all the connections (particularly the one between the 'cap', the middle lug on the tone pot and the bottom of the pot). EDIT: Also, obviously the line from the volume to the tone pot.
If that doesn't get it working, you can do the 'chopstick test', whereby you get something not electrically conductive (such as a chopstick), plug the guitar in, turn tone knob in all the way, strum a note and start tapping components on the tone pot until you hear it kick in.
If none of that works and you're 100% sure that you've conducted all tests correctly, time for a new pot and a new cap.
