So, some of you may have seen the NGD I posted for this recently.
Long story short, I was fighting for a decent sound with this guitar on all my gear, including a Fender amp that a friend brought. The neck and middle pickups always sounded "ok" but the bridge sounded thin, flat and lifeless.. And even though they are supposed to be "noiseless", they're noisier than a whorehouse during happy hour.
After checking the electronics thoroughly, the missing "Noiseless" decal on the pickups got me thinking, maybe the other guy swapped the pickups. I originally thought he just took the decals off.
I found some numbers on the pickups that meant nothing to me or Google. So, I contacted Fender and after a while they identified the pickups for me.
Yeah... In their words: "These likely came out of a low-end Squier."
So, the person who I traded with snagged the noiseless pickups out of it and threw in some horseshit pickups before trading. Some people are just plain old dicks.
Anyway, I've decided, instead of buying 3 new pickups, I've got a Screamin' Demon in another guitar that I'm currently not using. I'll stick that in the bridge position with a push/pull pot to split it and eventually swap out the neck and middle pickup later down the road. Sooner or later, depending upon how well these get along with the Demon.
Which do you guys think looks best? I'm partial to the black. I thought I was going to stick with white knobs, but I think gold dome knobs will look better with the hardware that's already on it. These are Warmoth pickguards (http://www.warmoth.com/Pickguard/StratPickguard.aspx), so if you find something there that you think might look better, let me know and I'll try to Photoshop it up real quick for reference. Keep in mind, these are rough Photoshop pictures I threw together in less than 5 minutes.
I really like the tortoise shell that is on there If you are going to have Warmoth do the pickguard then I highly recommend that you just get tone 2 drilled by them and then add in a volume that is like about 1/2" lower. Ill grab a pic in a minute of one of my strats that I have done that too
