I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Mattayus for the work he did on my Jackson Soloist SLX.
I asked Matt to to a general set up and fret level as the guitar is brand new and built to something of a budget, i have never had Fender that came from the factory with level frets so i thought to start off with them level is a good idea.
I was in a slight rush for the guitar back and Matt was great working with me on that.
In levelling my frets and quite without me having thought of it beforehand, he also dressed the ends of each fret and slightly bevelled the sharp (ish) edge of the neck binding. This has given the guitar a *much* more expensive feel and almost the same feeling as a 'Rolled Edge' would be on a guitar without binding. Absolutely a key part of how amazingly this guitar has come together and as well as a great job on the actual levelling part, this has been the finishing touch to that and an excellent surprise which was obviously well thought through.
Since i got the guitar back, i have gone one step further myself by addressing the floyd rose nut shelf which was cut shallow by the factory. Believe it or not, Rocka has a point with this. I have no woodworking skills and as i'm getting a new locknut with the Gotoh trem upgrade kit in a month or two, i thought i would fuck with the hardened steel nut instead. I removed 0.3mm from the base of it and now my string height above the first fret is 0.20mm and it makes such a great difference. MY string height at the 12th fret is 0.6mm both sides and THAT is thanks to Matt for the fret work.
There isn't a hint of buzzing anywhere on the neck, as long as you remember that the low action means a restrained hand with pick attack but that's fine for a soloist - it's not a guitar to strum hard for me anyway.
Now my cheap-ass import Jackson plays and sounds like a Much more expensive instrument and for the first time in a long time instead of fighting with the strings, i'm finding the neck and set up is helping me to get things under my fingers much quicker and better than ever.
I'm Dead Happy.
