Default Is this an acceptable way to block a trem?

My first attempt at a trem block; had a friend tell me that this was a better way to do it.

.

So in essence i have the block directly under the bridge as opposed to the back plate.

You really cant see it when you look at the trem:

The wood i used is Poplar, i have it glued down and letting it sit overnight.

If you're just putting it in under the trem, it's only being blocked one way.

I'd do it like this:

There can be but little liberty on earth while men worship a tyrant in heaven.”~ Robert Ingersoll

I'd do it like this:

Ok i see, so this way would block it from totally moving; the way i have it now i can still pull down on it.

Is there a disadvantage in the way i have it now?

I've always just ran 1 block like you have, but I put all 5 springs in and crank them in further yet. This is as stable as a fixed as long as the springs are hecka' tight.
I were to do another I'd probably go with the aforemention front and back blocks, but that would imply caring about my own guitars. I'm just not prepared to do that.

Also what would be the best way about blocking an Ibanez Edge 7 trem (like in the 1527m)?

Since there's a spring that "pops up" the Floyd fine-tuners underneath the plate, that might be a concern, but otherwise you just made it into the flat-mount version (EVH style).

If you consider that you can pull down on it a disadvantage, then yes. Like Mike said, you've essentially made it a dive-only bridge. But if thats what you were going for, then you're good.

No, because my two Floyd guitars are topmount-style with neck angle, so the bridge sits high, like a Tune-o-matic.

I use the "front" (spring side of the trem block) shim like this to block them.
