Hey, something else that appeals to guitarists' sense of "Old shit is always better than new shit! Guitar technology is regressive!"

They've always done brass blocks, just tiny brass blocks
OFR? they have steel ones, the Schaller ones have brass unless that is the baseplate and not the block?

As someone who has an OFR on one guitar, a Gotoh floyd on another, and a Schaller floyd on a third, I must say I prefer the Gotoh.

Say what you will about the 1984FR, but "EVH Sycophants" is a pretty lucrative market.

When nothing less than second-best will do.

Pretty sure the OFR blocks are chrome plated brass, not steel.

Yeah, they're brass on the inside. The fine tuners are supposedly black painted brass still as well, so the only real differences between an OFR and the 1984 are the bigger block and bar/holder.

The plain brass fine tuners look bad to me, if they were going for a vintage/worn vibe they should've patina'd them from the factory.

No love for the wood screws? Yeah, they're a pain to install correctly, but they're there forever. Studs eventually oval out the holes you drilled to install them, so with any guitar, it's only a matter of time until you're doweling and re-drilling. Same deal with the rear mounted locking nuts; you're never going to have to worry about that going anywhere.

That arm holder is the only design that you can set almost as loose as you want, yet stays exactly where you leave it. It's fucking awesome, but it takes a wrench to attach and detach it. That's why Floyd moved to the bar collars.

You can now buy a brass big block from several different places on the web, and I could care less about the unfinished brass fine tuners, so this doesn't really matter to me. Cool that the old school guys can get exactly what they want, though.
