Default DIY Mark IIC+ Preamp

I was thinking about taking up a project for my spare time to get my mind off of school. I stumbled across this preamp and I took an electronics class around 2001-2002ish and wanted to see if you guys think I'm nuts for wanting to attempt this or think it should be fun and a good idea for me.

If you can do it without electrocuting yourself (like I would) I say go for it!

Do it.

It doesn't even look too difficult!

Do it!

I've built one of these and while it doesn't really sound like the MKIIC+ as the EQ and its positioning is a large part of the sound as is the wind on the output transformer it does sound great.

he also has some PCB layouts for it which make it even easier.

Hmmm, I wonder how expensive it is to make these. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at the SLO and Matchless Preamps. Guess its time to price all the parts and see.

7DS: Let me know what kinda pricing you figure out on this. I might wanna fool around with the idea of making a MkIIC+ preamp if the money's not horribly expensive.

A lot of those amps have a lot of their character in the transformers. Although I'd love a 6505+ preamp to pair with a Mesa 20/20.

Nevertheless, seems like a cool project!

Too much knowledge leads to confusion
Too many guitar lessons lead to jazz-fusion

Preamps alone are generally quite cheap around £200 max as its the output transformers and headshells etc that add a lot to the price

whereas the preamp is a fairly cheap circuit with a cheap transformer in a cheapish enclosure.

I am actually currently working on a SLO rack preamp that has all 3 channels and midi switching which is going to come out around £300 in total
