Nice tuners dude. love locking tuners personally, my EC-1000 is constantly detuned and retuned whenever I feel, and it always keeps, not matter what guage I'm using because of these babies.

Do you know what time it is? It's time to FARK SHEET ARRRRRP!!

Care to go into more detail on the "nut-slot-widening" side of things? From the looks of it you just used regular, albeit good quality, needle files? Was it the half-round one you used?

Sorry for the questions, but I'm getting an SE 245 in a couple of weeks and I'm probably going to be putting 12-60s on it, so it's going to need it, as well as new tuners (hoping to find some Grovers that will fit). Figured I'd give it a try on the stock one before I get a TUSQ/Graphite replacement in case I make a balls up of it.

That's exactly what I used. Those are actually metal files, but they were all that I had on hand and pretty much anything is going to chew up the soft compound that the nut's made out of.

I'm definitely not the guy to ask for the "right" way to do it, but what worked for me was just going really slow - widen it a bit check the string, give it a tug to make sure it doesn't bind, repeat until I was happy.

I just put these same tuners on my 245. One thing to note with the 245; its headstock (and neck) are thicker than other SEs, so there's a little less clearance than there is on Chris's Navarro SE. Still works fine though, and you can restring in about thirty seconds per string. Now I just need to get the nut professionally recut, cause there's definitely some binding going on and I don't have any needle files.

I'd recommend grabbing these Schaller M6 Locking Tuners instead of the Grovers. They drop right in and work great.

Great pic story dude. I immediately noticed how shitty the tuners were in Guitar Center when I played the Navarro... and most any SE for that matter, except for the Torero. Good thinking with those files too. You should try some 13s for C standard on that axe

I guess I'm just a common, unrefined plebian, but the tuners on my SE never bother me much. I did notice that when I got mine the nut was binding horribly on the D and G slots, even with a set of 10-46 in.

I don't need locking tuners, will the M6 or the mini M6 work as a direct drop in? Thanks

Great post...

I think every guitar should have locking tuners. They dramatically speed up string changes and eliminate one of the main sources of tuning instability.

And to answer your question, yes, the M6 Mini should be a direct drop-in replacement.

Thank you. The Schematic on StewMac site does not look like I could put these in without drilling another whole in the PRS SE. The Gotoh on the other hand does. When I called them they did not think the Schaller (my first choice) would work without a mod. Interesting.
