Ive been playing a little over 3 years. My influences are, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Exodus, Evile, Municipal Waste, and basically anything Thrash.
I can play a couple of full songs.
Unleash The Bastards
Devil Is A Loser
My Journey To The Stars
There is probably a couple more. I do play some other genre's, Nirvana has a couple of okay songs. I also learned the song Furry Walls from the movie Get Him To The Greek. A couple of classical things too. The classical piece at the end of the movie Crossroads. Also I can play the intro to Last Rites by Megadeth. I mess around with other genre's, but mostly Thrash/Metal.
Sadly. I don't know music theory. I under the basics kinda. I know about intervals. But as far as recognizing and identifying any note on the fretboard, I can only do on the E and A string so far.
I want to know how to improve my abilities even more though. I recently just got into solo'ing. I felt alot more skilled when I learned the ending blues solo in the song Gears Of War by Megadeth. I can play it perfect, even faster than Mustaine. I really want to improve my playing and skill.
What im making this thread for is. I want to know a schedule, or a list of songs I could play at my level, and as I get a little better. Maybe each song advancing a step in difficulty, and a range of different effects or practices. OR a good tutorial or lessons online to learn music theory a little better. And maybe how to read music. Either one would help a ton.
Learning songs is just song memorization. It teaches muscle memory but not how and why the song works the way it does. I'd really REALLY suggest a book or five on music theory (or perhaps a class).
