Hey guys, I've been having some troubles with my left hand lately. Since joining a blackened death metal band over the summer, after having been playing in a doom band for 3 years, I think I'm pressing too hard on the strings when playing fast riffs. This makes my hand cramp up, and makes it really suck to play.
At my first show with this band, last Friday, my hand cramped up during the second song (we were playing faster than usual, as you tend to do live anyway, and also had to shorten our set, so it was a LOT faster than I'm used to playing), and I had no choice but to just keep playing through it, which really sucked.
Anyone have suggestions for getting my hand to relax more so that this doesn't happen in the future?
Lighter strings, lower action, and just being conscious of staying "loose" all throughout your arms and body would be my recommendations.
