I've really been trying to take my downpicking speed to the next level. My bar is Master of Puppets. I continue to play that opening riff, identifying weaknesses in my technique that slow me down.
Then I noticed something - sometimes I could play it pretty well, other times I couldn't play it at all. BUT I think I figured it out - if I concentrate on picking lightly instead of driving through the notes, I'm much faster and even more precise.
Is this the break through I've been working for is light picking the key to amazing speed?
