Hey guys. Years ago I took lessons from a local guy and when I told him I was into Death Metal and at least Metal in general, he didn't quite understand where I was coming from. Wasn't his thing. But I tried taking some lessons from the guy anyway and to be honest, I lost interest pretty bad I think because the guy didn't know where I was coming from.
Fast forward quite a few years, my guitar collected dust and is hardly ever tuned but I'm getting tired of watching some great guitarists play stuff that amazes me and yet not be able to play anything myself. I feel like a racehorse with four broken legs dying to run.
I'd love to start playing but not get...turned off again by being sent in the wrong direction. A few months ago I picked up my guitar and realized I forgot anything that guitar teacher showed me.
How do I start all over from the beginning? But do it right this time?
Learnbing to play by playing death metal isn't easy, as a lot of it is pretty technically challenging. Would starting with something more like Sabbath be an option and then work up from there?
Also, working with a local teacher who can introduce you to stuff you're interested is probably the BEST way to go, but, well, can you read tablature?
