I've been playing guitar since I was 13 (I'm 29 now) and I was never interested in being a flashy shredder or ripping face melters. I always loved rhythm and writing songs and never really cared about learning theory or getting REALLY good technique wise.
After finding progressive metal at age 20 and being blown away by Thordendal and Holdsworth I was immediately discouraged and thought there's no way in hell I'd ever be that good. I still continued to write music and develop my song writing skills. Fast-forward to now where I've put a band together that plays the music that I write and I'm now starting to take cracks at writing solos for my music.
I can't read music, know zero theory and barely know chord names but here is a solo idea for a new song from my band Replicas.
I'm in love with legato but I don't know if that's putting the cart before the horse being that I know zero theory, but I try to teach myself the stuff that I find interesting when it comes to soloing (I don't care much for sweeping). Is this a good or bad move? Should I go about it a different way?
Sorry if tl/dr.
Mods: sorry if this should be in the Recording forum.. I wasn't sure which forum would be best.
I thought it fits in and sounds good.
