First off, thanks to those who recommended this program he is very happy with it. But it seems there is a problem.
So he's enjoying using this music to arrange songs.
He has found an inelegant solution to a problem. He is writing the songs as three tracks even though he can play the three tracks by himself. Bass, rhtymn and lead.
The problem is that let's say he want to play two note simultaneously. The program will automatically make both notes the same type. e.g. if one note is a quarter note..... the second note to be played at the same time is assigned the same type.
He would like it so that the notation could show that the two notes despite being played at the same time might be of different types..... e.g. the lead note might be a quarter but the bass note might last for two beats.
How do you get the program to stop doing this?

Ok, because guitar pro uses standard notation as the basis for it, in order to make a 2 notes start on the same beat but finish on different ones, he needs to make both notes the shortest length and then add more length to the note to be sustained by pressing 'L' if I remember correctly.
Basically if one note is to be a quarter note and the other is to be a half note, write both notes on the same beat and the next note after shall be an extension of the one to be sustained and will show no note but instead a curved line to the next note indicating the note should be held.
Musical notation is essentially maths and it all boils down to the lowest common number.
The example below shows tho notes playing simultaneously but the lower of the notes is sustained for another half note as shown by the joining of the note with a curved line. That's how it will look in GP as well.
