So I was laying down some placeholder leads last night for my Country and Western themed thrash project I sometimes demo ideas for but never get around to recording called "Johnny Thrash" (If that pun is already taken I am going to be pissed). I'm not a lead player, but I presume anyone could bust out some badass sloppy old man blues leads if they tried. I never try though, so I need advice.
I need to make my sloppy old man blues skills better, give me some ideas. Obviously the finished version is going to have wah. Here are the stipulations.
-It can't span more than two octaves, my inner sloppy old man is a drunk. His wife and kids left him when he spent their college funds on Gibson R9s.
-If some online fag heard it, I don't want the word "phrasing", to even pop into their head. No one even knows what that means anyways. It's a lame word to use. Old men call it feel.
-It has to be pentatonic as fuck. More pentatonic than pentatonic if that is at all possible.
-There can literally be no fancy techniques. The only technique is going to be feel.
-An explorer with an EMG 81 into EZ Mixes Meshuggah lead guitar sound VST isn't cutting it bros. What guitar should I use?
-Should I use a slide?
-Possibly trve if possible. With as many trem picking bends as possible.
How should I improve?
Straight pentatonics, don't leave the box AT ALL and walk over the same lines several times.
