Since I've just started getting back into music/guitar after a 2 year break, I am finding it hard to write music that is even remotely interesting to me. I wanted to get some idea of how you guys approach songwriting.
Do you sit down with a guitar and noodle in a key and develop some phrases to work off of, or do you have melodies in your head before you even touch an instrument?
For songs with singing, do you prefer to get a vocal melody established and write chords underneath it, or do you like to write chords and then develop the melody? Sometimes I feel like I come up with less obvious chord progressions when I write a melody, and incorporate a lot of changes underneath to support it.
I struggle with creativity, so I am very interested to hear how some of you write such unique music.
Go get this dude, you will love it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/star...303486854?mt=8
Obviously we all already know the base modes, but the modes of all the obscure scales unlocked a lot of ideas I wouldn't have had otherwise.
