My naturalist friend has been telling me that the supplements I take don't do anything but make my urine expensive and colorful, and that I need to take natural vitamins to get any real benefit. I take most of her health-related opinions with a grain of salt, but I figured it was worth looking into. As expected, after trying to read up on the subject, I saw a lot of arguments on both sides. Some sources say that synthetic vitamins are useless and even harmful. Some say that synthetic vitamins are nearly or equally effective. Some say that only some vitamins, like C and E, are problematic in their synthetic form.
Are any of you especially knowledgeable on this subject? Are synthetic vitamins significantly less-good, or even bad? How do I know what vitamins are truly natural or beneficial? Or should I just stick with my Centrum and fish oil?
