So, my wife and I are looking at getting a couple bikes. I like mountain bikes, but am more of an old school BMXer at heart. I detest gear changing, detest suspension of any sort.
The bike I found is aluminum, disk brakes, and 29" wheels. Basically looks like a bmx bike for grownups, which I dig. I've also heard these are pretty ideal for flat lands, and since I live in flat farmland, that fits the bill.
What are your thoughts on this?
I'd actually say fuck it and just get a bmx bike, but I'd feel a little silly towing my kids in the Burly trailer with it.
If you're towing kids and going solo with the same bike, I'd recommend considering more than one gear.
Otherwise, I say go for it, especially since you live in a flat part of the country. Expect to spend some time finding just the right gearing, though. It'll depend on your strength and optimal cadence, and will change with time as your legs get stronger.
I went through three rear cogs to find just the right balance for my commute, which was mostly flat but had two steep-ish hills.
