Get strong. do compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, power cleans etc. If you are just starting, you do not need to isolate different body parts bodybuilder style. Get a sweet strength base first via the full body compound lifts.
Squats will be done to parallel or below. Squats done above parallel will hurt your knees and worse. Deadlifts will be done with a set back, not a round one. Form is more important than the amount on the bar. Having an ego with lifting will lead to injury.
