I ride my old Columbia 3-speed just about everywhere around Boston. It's been my primary mode of transportation for most of this year. Even though it's lasted this long (40ish years), it's still a rather cheaply-made bike, and I've decided it would be nice to get something nicer. All I really want is something similar, but with modern components on a nicer frame.
After considering a bunch of options, I'm leaning toward this old Raleigh I found at a shop that specializes in vintage bikes. I'd upgrade the wheels and a couple other components to modern stuff (not so much for weight as for all-weather functionality), and I have some plans for cosmetic tweaks, as well. Might be picking it up today.
Because of the color (which is pretty uncommon for one of these bikes), I've dubbed it the Dragon Bike...check it out:
Here's the bike I have now:
Don't be a hipster, Ari. If you insist on going vintage, at least get a proper road bike. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference having the right tool for the job.
