    Wrist Surgery Coming :)

Met with my orthopedist Thursday and I was able to get him to perform surgery on my right wrist on March 7th coming. Looking at the xrays of my arthritic right wrist from Thursday and from 4 years ago, the damage has gotten worse BUT..the arthritis has not spread. So, they are going to do a few things: make a small incision in my right arm and take a plug of bone out of one of the bones. Then, they are going to put that plug in the space between the 3 wrist bones that are grinding against each other, and pin it all together. That should, in a few months, leave me with 1 big bone and not three smaller bones.

Cast for 2 months after surgery, pins out 3 months after initial surgery, and within a year I should be completely pain free and still have the flexibility I have now (which is enough for guitar and piano, and good enough for karate).

This is fantastic news as far as I am concerned, as it will let me play the guitar again, which I haven't been able to do for more than a few minutes a week (when I bother these days) for about 5 years now. Might have to sell a synth or two and get a Mike Shannon Soloist for Christmas! lol

Good luck dude. I'd be terrified, but it seems the doctors are optimistic about your results.

It's funny, but the doctors asked me in '10 and again last week if I damaged my hand when I was a kid to have set this off (because it is so localized), and I could never remember anything. And just this morning I remembered punching through 3 1" boards about 10 years ago at a karate demonstration and breaking the knuckle on my middle finger of my right hand. I must have set this off at that point.

So yeah, this is fucking great news to me, I will be able to play the guitar again in less than a year! I begged them to do this surgery basically, because I am tired of the arthritis being a constant inconvenience. Little things like turning keys and doorknobs, using a can opener, those things hurt and have for years. That's what I told the doctor - it was enough already just fix the fucking thing if it can be fixed So Friday March 7th, I will see how tough it is to raise a pint with my arm and hand in a cast lol

Good luck, man. I am not excited about the inevitable issues I'm going to be dealing with down the road, so I try to do it all right now while I can.
