I'm looking at getting a new bike; the Stumpjumper fell through, because the boss is giving it to his son.
So I am looking at this:
Basically, I'm wanting something fast for the road, but that can handle gravel and shit roads, because that's where I live, unfortunately.
I was going to go for the disc brake option, however 75% of the time riding this will be while towing this:
And mine's an older version that doesn't play nice with disc brakes, unfortunately.
If the bulk of your riding is going to be roads, that's a decent bike for the coin. If you're going to spend more time on gravel, you might find something with even a basic suspension fork more comfortable and easier on your wrists.
That's almost an entry-level cyclocross bike. Boatloads of fun (a CX is on my list of bikes to pick up this year too), but not the most comfortable thing if you aren't used to riding a really stiff bike with skinny tires on rough terrain.
