OK I'll ask. How is roasted mahogany different from regular mahogany?

They bake the wood at a high temperature in a vacuum sealed oven to remove any remaining moisture. They started doing this with their necks a couple years ago to give them better stability, which also made them less prone to warping from changes in temperature and humidity. Cosmetically it gives the wood a nice light brown color all the way through, so if you were to cut the wood in half, the color would be brown inside too.

I'm not positive what the advantage is to roasting the body but it certainly looks cool! I'll see if I can find out more from Suhr and let you guys know.

    Very nice!

Suhr has done a few roasted bodies -

It sounds pretty damn good too (not sure if attributable to the roasted ash though )

I've always loved the roasted maple necks that Suhr do. Very yummy! And suprise suprise the roasted bodies look just as good too from them. I'd be very interested to see what changes to tonally it would make to the instrument.
