Hello all musicians, and especially bass players I have a question about bass pick ups
I have plans of buying another bass guitar. It will be a 5-stringed bass, probably a warwick, but I'm not really sure. I've also tried out other basses, and I kind of liked the Yamaha RBX 375 (:O). The sound was very cool and rough so to say, and I liked it a lot The warwick sounded good too, so now I am a little torn...
I checked up what kind of pup's the yamaha and the warwick had, and it says that the yamaha has "active ceramic yahama humbuckers", while the Warwick has passive MEC MM pick ups.
Q: What is the differences between them, and what are the pros and cons of each pup?
Please help a confused brother in axes :S
I couldn't find much on the Internet describing the Yamaha pickups. I do wonder if they are actually active though, that seems odd. Usually you get passive pickups and active preamps. To be honest, as pickups can be fairly easy to change and both the onboard preamp and the controls on your amp will give you some flexibility as well, I would go by the neck rather than the pickups. I haven't played either of these basses, but i would try to play them if you can and go with the more comfortable neck.
