Finally got here! I asked them for an ABZ set up for F#, sent them some Circle Ks, and they delivered.
It took a lot more work than my old BTB to get the tone where I wanted it, but in the end, the results were more controlled, so I'm quite satisfied. Out of the box, the ABZ was ridonkulously bright and a bit low on sustain (you could call it "more dynamics" if you'd like) but a compressor and a drastic EQ on the dry signal, and a lot of deep parameter editing (Axe II) got me around that. And of course the playability is great with the multiscale (34"-37"). Like the BTB, there's a lot of sympathetic resonance between strings, but I can't really point to a cause for that. At any rate, I'll be holding onto this baby...
Edit: Also, I should say that Sheldon Dingwall checked up afterward to see how I was doing with the instrument. Awesome customer service indeed.
Here's some sounds. The mix is badonkadonk bottom end; it's quiet and somewhat dark, cuz I think that sounds better cranked.
Killer! If you were gonna tune that low, this is the bass to do it with. I <3 my Dingwall.
