I am working on getting rid of my Alesis kit, and instead modding my acrylic (acoustic kit) with Mesh heads (found pearl makes them for cheap) and Ddrum triggers. The only problem i've ran into is there isn't a 24" mesh head other than Hart, which is a bit too much for a mesh head IMO. I guess I could stuff it full of foam to stop the sound, but was wondering if you guys possibly had any ideas. I'm going to end up selling the Alesis kit to fund another brain with more inputs so I can have the full kit and more cymbals (snare, rack tom, two floors, and a kick) and I am going to use broken cymbals and cymbal mutes to make triggers for cymbals. I really want a closer to natural feel, but I don't have the cash to spend on a Roland or Pearl E-Kit, so I must do what I always do....DIY.
I thought about foam on the outside of the bass drum but I am worried the Ddrum trigger wouldn't be able to pick that up. I know mesh will be Ok, but not sure about foam.
I find dead bodies work pretty well. Just get some Febreze for the smell.
