With the bass sessions coming in, I thought to widen the tonal palette and grabbed one of these:
Kala Rumble U-Bass
I found out about these when I saw Philip Bynoe play one during the recent Vai tour, and the sound was huge, almost akin to an upright bass. So I was set on getting one after that. Tried a few in store and was surprised how even the low end Rumbles sounded so good. I suppose plugging it to an Ampeg helped.
My only gripe would be the plastic strings. It's a completely new concept for me and will take a bit of time to get used to. Other than that, I've got a massive upright tone from a tiny bass.

Nice, get some sick Jaco going on. I played an ashbory years ago which is similar and the trick is to use a little drop of silicone lube, makes moving up and down the strings a breeze.
